Daily Provisions

,
New York, NY

I first discovered Daily Provisions on the Upper West Side. They have my favorite B.E.C. (bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich; first photo above). The bun is soft, the bacon is Berkshire thick cut, the egg fried and a little runny. They also make crullers, which are deep-fried pastries shaped like donuts. A cruller tastes more elevated than a donut, with a crunchy exterior and airy center. My favorite is the maple, which Daily Provisions sells all year round (second photo). The sweetness from the maple cruller is a nice finish to the salty B.E.C.

Their drink selection includes typical cafe items like coffee, tea, sodas, and hot chocolate (third photo, with peppermint for the winter). They also have wine, beer, and cocktails.

They serve dinner with hearty entrees like roast chicken and a patty melt (fourth photo).

It can get crowded on weekends; luckily, you can order ahead online for pick-ups. I’ve eaten dinner in the Upper West Side location before a concert at the Beacon Theater, which is only a few blocks away. I was happy when they opened one in the Upper East Side, close to the Central Park Reservoir and walking distance to the Guggenheim Museum. They now have a convenient location in the rink area of Rockefeller Center. I also visit the one called Manhattan West, which is near Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. Suitable for grabbing a quick bite on the way.
